Regulation of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae DNA repair gene RAD16.

The RAD16 gene product has been shown to be essential for the repair of the silenced mating type loci [Bang et al. (1992) Nucleic Acids Res. 20, 3925-3931]. More recently we demonstrated that the RAD16 and RAD7 proteins are also required for repair of non-transcribed strands of active genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae [Waters et al. (1993) Mol. Gen. Genet. 239, 28-32]. We have studied the regul...

Molecular cloning of RAD16, a gene involved in differential repair in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

We have cloned the RAD16 gene of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and determined its nucleotide sequence. The gene complements the UV sensitivity of a rad16 mutant and restores the ability to repair the transcriptionally inactive HML alpha locus that is absent in this mutant. Disruption mutants that were constructed using the cloned gene are viable and UV sensitive and show no detectable growth defect....

CLONING AND EXPRESSION OF HUMAN IFNα2B GENE IN SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE

Interferon is a protein secreted by eucaryotic cells following stimulation by viruses, bacteria, and many other immunogenes. Recent medical studies indicate that interferons have effective role in the treatment of virus infections, immunodeficiency and certain types of cancer such as hairy cell leukaemia (HCL). The aim of the present study is to apply yeast strain for secreting human IFNα2b fol...

THE SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE PSmiSNMl GENE AND REPAIR OF ANTICANCER DRUG- INDUCED DNA INTERSTRAND CROSS-LINKS LOUISE

Saccharomyces cerevisiae (budding yeast) cells defective for the PS02/SNM1 gene are uniquely sensitive to agents that produce DNA interstrand cross-links (ICLs), but not other forms of DNA damage. In the absence of Pso2, repair is stalled after the initial incision of ICLs, resulting in an accumulation of DNA double strand breaks (DSBs). The Pso2 protein is a member of the (3-CASP metallo-P-lac...
